Nintendo Confirms 2 New Details About Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct

Nintendo is getting ready to celebrate 40 years of The Legend of Zelda, and we now know a little more about what fans can expect from the special anniversary Direct on September 8.

The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct will begin at 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET and run for approximately 30 minutes. Nintendo has confirmed that the presentation will focus specifically on Zelda and the franchise's anniversary.

But ahead of the broadcast, Nintendo has revealed two important details about what's coming.

Ocarina of Time Will Be Part of the Direct

One of the biggest confirmations is that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will be featured during the presentation.

Nintendo has indicated that the upcoming version of Ocarina of Time will appear during the anniversary showcase, giving fans a reason to expect a closer look at the project.

Ocarina of Time remains one of the most recognizable games in the Zelda franchise, so its inclusion makes sense for a presentation celebrating four decades of the series.

Exactly how much Nintendo plans to reveal remains to be seen, but the confirmation makes Ocarina of Time one of the major things to watch for when the Direct begins.

The Celebration Goes Beyond Video Games

The second confirmation is that Nintendo won't be limiting the presentation entirely to games.

Nintendo says the Direct will also cover 40th anniversary initiatives beyond gaming.

That opens the door to several possibilities surrounding the Zelda franchise. One obvious candidate is the upcoming live-action Legend of Zelda movie, although fans will have to wait for the presentation to see exactly what Nintendo has planned.

Other anniversary merchandise, collaborations, events, or special projects could potentially appear as well, but Nintendo hasn't confirmed those details yet.

Zelda Fans Don't Have Long to Wait

The Zelda presentation is only the beginning of a busy couple of days for Nintendo.

After the 30-minute Zelda Direct on September 8, Nintendo will hold another general Nintendo Direct on September 9 at 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET. That presentation will run for approximately 45 minutes, followed by a Nintendo Treehouse livestream featuring gameplay from selected titles shown during the Direct.

For Zelda fans, though, September 8 is the date to watch.

With Ocarina of Time confirmed and Nintendo promising announcements extending beyond games, the 40th Anniversary Direct could give fans a much clearer picture of how Nintendo plans to celebrate one of its most important franchises.
